NCCPA Recertification Exam Proposal
The AAPA is already taking steps to examine and respond to this proposal to ensure that the collective voice of the profession is accurately represented.
MAPA would like to draft a letter to the NCCPA with the collective voice of Minnesota professionals and asks for your comments and feedback!

This proposal adds another layer of complexity to the entire process. I too do not fit into a specific category of sub-specialty so have no idea how I will be able to maintain my certification based on the proposal.
The proposal does not have a timeline laid out that I can see but seems to me it will require consistent and frequent testing to maintain requirements. It already requires so much time and expense.
I also am disappointed that the requirements keep changing. I have not even started the first 10 year cycle change and now there is a proposal to change them again. Please don't make it more onerous than it already is now. I admit I haven't figured out what the new/old process is yet as I am finishing my 6 year cycle.
I agree with the previous comments. I think the new proposal is unnecessarily over complicated. It also poses problems for those in sub-specialties, such as spine surgery. I don't fit exactly into neurosurgery or orthopedic surgery. Therefore, I'd actually have to do more studying to still study the general medicine as well as for the specialized test that doesn't completely fit into my current job. I do not like the idea of more frequent testing, even if it is a take-home test with less questions. Even with more PAs going into specialties, and I do dread having to study for the re-certification exam, I think it is a good idea to keep us well-rounded and more able to switch jobs quickly.
