Scholarships

MAPA is proud to offer first-year student scholarships to aid in the high cost of education. We recognize the

difficulties in paying for your PA studies while trying to prepare for your career, and we would like to help as

much as we can. Must be a MAPA student member to apply.

 

 

PA Education Facts

• Most programs are approximately 26 months (3 academic years) and require the same prerequisite courses as medical schools
• Most programs also require three years of healthcare training and experience
• Students take courses in basic sciences, behavioral sciences and clinical medicine across subjects such as anatomy, pharmacology, microbiology, physiology and more
• PA Students complete a total of more than 2,000 hours of clinical rotations in:
  • Family medicine
  • Internal medicine
  • Obstetrics and gynecology
  • Pediatrics
  • General surgery
  • Emergency medicine
  • Psychiatry 

 

Continuing Medical Education (CME)

As a PA, your education never stops, and to maintain your certification you must complete 100 CME hours

every two years. The National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants (NCCPA) has

implemented a new PA certification maintenance process. 

Under the new certification maintenance process, there are two major changes:

1. The re-certification exam requirement is being extended from every six (6) years to every ten (10) years.
2. PAs will still have to earn 100 CME credits every two years, but two new categories have been added self-assessment and performance improvement CME (PI-CME).
