PA Modernization Act of 2020

On May 27th, 2020 Governor Walz signed into law Senate File 13 – which includes the PA Practice Modernization Act.

9 Ways for PAs to Get Involved      

  1. Join or Renew Your MAPA Membership
    MAPA is dedicated to advocating for all PAs in Minnesota. Your membership strengthens efforts to increase PA recognition, support PA-friendly legislation, and build meaningful partnerships with other professional organizations. Encourage your colleagues to join or renew their membership—together, we amplify our voice and impact.

  2. Serve on a MAPA Committee
    MAPA’s standing committees play a crucial role in shaping initiatives and advancing the organization’s strategic objectives. Each committee contributes to the continued growth and development of the Minnesota Physician Associate profession. Joining a committee is a great way to expand your professional network, gain leadership experience, and contribute to the future of our profession. Get involved and make a difference today!

  3. Run for a position on the MAPA Board. Elections are held each Spring, with terms beginning July 1st. Learn more about the election process and the various positions.

  4. Connect with Your Legislators. Find out who your state legislators are using this website. Meet with your representative and senator at their office or send them an email introducing yourself and the PA profession. Watch for legislative updates on MAPAs Advocacy page and contact your legislator when critical issues arise that could affect our profession. Always forward a copy of the responses to MAPA so we can ensure proper follow-up: mapa.advocate@gmail.com.

  5. Volunteer to be a leader at your workplace. Reach out to your supervisor to explore opportunities for increased involvement. There are various committees and volunteer opportunities where PAs can make a difference and ensure proper representation in the workplace.

  6. Promote awareness of the PA profession by sharing your expertise with those eager to learn. Seize every chance to educate your patients, family, friends, the public, and fellow healthcare professionals about the valuable role PAs play in healthcare. You may want to consider writing an article for your local newspaper or your organization’s newsletter. Encourage other PAs to join in this effort to spread knowledge about the profession. Our mission is to raise public awareness about the vital contribution PAs make to healthcare across Minnesota.

  7. Become a Mentor for a PA or Pre-PA Student. Minnesota is home to six PA programs: Augsburg University, St. Catherine University, Bethel University, the College of St. Scholastica, the Mayo Clinic PA Program, and Concordia University. Rotation sites are crucial for preparing future professionals and ensuring that new graduates are equipped to enter the workforce confidently. Share your knowledge and experience by becoming a Preceptor and helping to educate PA students. For more information, please contact the program nearest you or email info@MinnesotaPA.org.

  8. Keep current with the latest evidence-based practices by taking advantage of MAPA's various CME opportunities throughout the year, including our annual conference. For a complete list of upcoming events, check out our events calendar. MAPA also offers PAs the chance to contribute by presenting CME sessions at conferences and events. Share your expertise by submitting a CME presentation proposal.

  9. Support AAPA’s PAC The AAPA Political Action Committee (PA PAC) supports congressional candidates from both parties who are committed to advancing the values that shape the PA profession. Donate today to help advocate for our profession at the federal level.
