September is Atrial Fibrillation awareness month.  Atrial fibrillation – A-fib – is an irregular heartbeat (arrhythmia) that can lead to various heart-related complications such as blood clots, stroke, and heart failure. Unfortunately, atrial fibrillation is often undiagnosed or undertreated. If not properly treated, atrial fibrillation can become worse.

  • 8 million people are estimated to have atrial fibrillation in the U.S.
  • 1.2 million people are diagnosed with atrial fibrillation every year in the U.S.
  • 1 in 4 adults over 40 will develop atrial fibrillation in their lifetime.

In addition to speaking with your health care provider about how to decrease your risk of developing A-fib we recommend these resources;

Mayo Clinic

Centers for Disease Control and Prevention

American Heart Association
