It’s time to think about “back to school” and that often includes a Pre-Participation Physical Exam (PPPE) also known as Sports Exams. The purpose of the PPPE is to identify athletes that may be at risk for further injury or illness and to refer these athletes for additional medical evaluation prior to allowing them to participate. You may think that the physical exam is the most important part of the PPPE, however the medical history is the most important component. It can identify if your son or daughter may be at risk for a number of medical and/or orthopedic conditions that need follow-up. If you are not accompanying your child for the appointment, be sure that you have reviewed it with them. It is only as good as it is accurate.
